Rummage Sale Summary
On August 2nd and 3rd, Unity Christian Church’s Harvest of Talents committee hosted a rummage sale at the church. If you missed it, this is an annual summer event that you can look forward to participating in next year. Here are some ways that you can help:
- Donate items to the sale. The entire week prior to the sale (Monday – Thursday) the church is open for donations from noon-6pm. At any time during those hours you may drop off donations. Please prayerfully consider donating things that you no longer use, which you think may be helpful for someone else in the community.
- Buy things at the sale. It’s amazing how many times people from the church were buying things at the sale and wondering who donated it because, even though someone else wasn’t using it, it was just the thing they were looking for.
- Have lunch at the sale. No, it’s not fancy, but the fat hot dogs that are cooked can really hit the spot. It’s not too expensive, but it’s one way you can help us make just a little bit more money every year.
- Help sort and set up for the sale. Although quite a few Harvest team members handle this duty, it is always a long week for them. Consider helping in this area if you are available.
Between the sale and the lunch, the rummage sale made $1,128.25 this year. As usual, ALL OF THE MONEY goes to world hunger relief through IDES. However, we should also emphasize ways in which the rummage sale helps the local community:
- Local people look forward to the sale and find good bargains. At times, we have been able to offer for sale specific items that people were looking for. This year, at least one college student was able to find some furniture.
- The local MOPS group came to collect a few unsold items to use for their rummage sale this year. Their rummage sale helps to fund their scholarships so that every mom who wishes to participate can join without worrying about paying dues. The MOPS group is dedicated to serving local young mothers in their mothering journey.
- The items that were unsold and not collected by MOPS were donated to the Grant County Rescue Mission. The rescue mission runs a men’s shelter, a women’s shelter, apartments, and a family shelter as well as a retail store, meals, GED classes, and more.
Thanks to everyone who participated in any way. We look forward to another good sale next year! Praise be to God.
