an old bulldog lays on a porch looking tired.

Just ain’t feelin it.

Sometimes all of us just aren’t feeling it.  The alarm goes off and the last thing that we want to do is get up and go to work or exercise.  We just want to keep the curtains pulled and pull the blankets back over our heads. Then hope everyone forgets we were supposed to be somewhere and doing something.

Maybe you failed at something.  Maybe things at work didn’t go as planned.  Maybe someone else at work caused you to waste a lot of time and effort on something pointless because they weren’t thinking or doing their job correctly.  Maybe you had an argument with your spouse (or kids).  Whatever it is, it has you down and you’d just rather… “not”.

If we are responsible adults, however, we get up and go do what we are supposed to be doing, because it needs doing and it isn’t going to do it by itself.  But do we do it wholeheartedly?  Probably not.  It’s almost like we need a coach giving us an inspirational speech, or a drill sergeant yelling in our ear to motivate us to do our actual best.  But that’s not what we really need (or probably want).  We have something better.

Colossians 3:15-17.  And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body.  And be thankful.  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.  And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

And also, Philippians 4:12-13.  I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound.  In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.  I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

Christians are not immune to getting blah about daily life.  We have things go wrong which make it seem difficult to just keep carrying on every day.  However, we have the strength of Christ to carry us through, and with that knowledge we are spurred on by His word to do all that we do for Him and through Him.
