Starved for Hope

This post is from Lincoln Christian Church‘s 2013 Prayer Calendar and was written by Veva Appel

“Mom, I’m starving” would be my children’s greeting as they came home from school. I knew this was not literally true because they had just eaten a few hours before.

For many children around the world, this is a reality. Suffering the pangs of real hunger is a daily occurrence for them.

The apostle Paul faced many hardships as he journeyed to spread God’s word. In 2 Corinthians 11, he relates some of his suffering. He states among them, “I have labored and toiled, I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food.”

Isaiah 29:8 says, “When a hungry man dreams that he is eating, but when he awakens and his hunger remains; as a thirsty man dreams that he is drinking, but he awakens and his thirst is not quenched, so it will be with all the nations.” How thankful we are for IDES and the Harvest of Talents, in the name of Jesus, our work is helping to alleviate some of that hunger and thirst to give so many help and hope.

Father God, may the labor of our hands give hope, courage and blessing to feed hungry and hurting people in our world. Help them to know that we care and are using your gifts to use to provide their needs through your people who love them and want to share the blessings we have received from your goodness to us. Because you love them and Jesus died for them.
