God’s Polka Dot Grace

Written by Lori Thomas of Lincoln Christian Church from Lincoln’s Harvest of Talents 30th Anniversary Prayer Calendar

We have all received a gift, and we have a choice to use it to serve others or not. Some have speaking gifts, others have serving gifts, but all of them together serve as conduits for sharing God’s grace with others.

The word we translate as various (“God’s grace in its various forms”) is from the Greek poikiles, which shares the same root word as our term “polka dots!” Our Harvest crafters and decorators are great at creating all kinds of fun and beautiful designs. Sometimes they even use polka dots!

But isn’t it great to think of what we do collectively as using the gifts God has given us to come together to make Harvest of Talents happen? From door greeters to dish washers, people working a year ahead to cleaning up afterward, all are God’s people using gifts given through His Spirit in the strength He provides. Together, we make up a colorful, inspiring display of His grace, poured out as a witness to all who hear about Harvest of Talents and to those who will be fed by it.

Pray for more who are willing to serve, for God’s strength to carry it to completion with attitudes of grace, and for eyes to see the beautiful display of His grace!
