February’s Craft Day

On Saturday, February 21st, a small group of people gathered to make vegetable beef soup, and learn how to preserve it using the pressure canning method.

During this time, we were able to can 19 pints of soup that will be sold in the fall at the big Harvest of Talents event to feed hungry people throughout the world. (The soup will be used to feed whomever buys it; the money raised will be sent to missionaries for their feeding programs). You may notice 20 pints in the picture, but one jar did not seal.

The skill of canning and preserving food is a valuable one for the harvest endeavor because it is something that can be done all year long, looks pretty, and sells well.

All of the participants in the canning class were able to take a portion of the soup home to enjoy for their family dinners as well.
