Come Quickly, Lord

This post was written by Gene Shepherd of Lincoln Christian Church in Lincoln, Illinois for their 2013 Harvest Prayer Calendar

I have a sense of urgency because my projects aren’t done. Should I not get them completed and “gathered in” by harvest time…someone is not going to eat. That elevates my harvest of talents project from something I have a talent do do, to something I am privileged to do as a part of God’s master plan to provide for those in need.

If I have to work right up to the moment when the doors open on Saturday, I’ll get my harvest in so other people can be fed. While they will never know me, or the effort I put into providing their meal, my hope is that they will know it was God, the Maker, who commissioned me to do so. May they see, in the fruits of our harvest, the love of a heavenly Father that longs to gather them at His own table for all eternity. So, let our prayer be…

Even so, Lord quickly come, to thy final harvest-home
Gather Thou Thy people in, free from sorrow, free from sin;
There, forever purified, In They presence to abide:
Come, with all Thine angels, come —
Raise the glorious harvest home.

“Therefore, let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
